Mercury Retrograde in Pisces:  March 5-27, 2019

“The man who has no inner life is the slave of his surroundings.”  Henri Frederic Amiel

Dates

Pre-shadow:   March 1-4

Mercury Rx:   March 5-27

Post-shadow:  March 28-April 16

I love Mercury retrograde because it’s a time where I am energetically supported in slowing down. It’s like a cosmic pause; an opportunity to step away from the never-ending to-do list; the busy-ness of the external world; and the non-stop demands of life. It’s an invitation to step into being vs doing.

I’ve found that if I work with and honor the energies, when Mercury goes direct, I feel grounded and revitalized.  I’m able to come back to projects and goals with renewed energy and clarity.

In addition to this retrograde being in Pisces, the Sun, Moon and Neptune are conjunct and also in Pisces!  This massive concentration of Piscean energies offer us an opportunity to practice self-transcendance; compassion; creativity; kindness; and love.

At the same time, it is helpful to be aware of the shadow expressions of Pisces:  escapism; self-deception; failure to defend ourselves, to claim what is ours or to ask for what we need; poor boundaries; numbing out/addictions; self-absorption; martyr-like loss of self; and ungroundedness.

Tips for working with Pisces

Lighten our schedules & to-do lists, in order to create literal and energetic spaciousness.

Pay attention to our dreams.  Keep a dream journal.

Meditate.

Imagine.  Create.

Explore a higher state of consciousness.

Reflect on where we are utilizing thinking, logic, and rationality at the expense of feelings, intuition, and what our bodies are telling us.

Practice sensitivity, compassion, and loving-kindness.

Be open to what cannot be explained by the rational mind:  miracles, magic, meaningful coincidences aka synchronicities;  psychic experiences.

Notice where we are overly attached to our ego and practice non-attachment.

Cultivate a spiritual practice.

Release critical, controlling, and perfectionistic tendencies.

Let faith, trust and intuition be our guides.

Slow down.  Relax.

Be still and breathe.

Seek solitude, silence, and stillness.

Tips for working with Mercury

This is a good time to do anything that begins with re.   Revisit, review, retreat, rethink, reflect, reconsider, rewrite, reconnect, redefine, etc.

Triple-check before hitting send on texts and emails.

Pause before speaking.  Be mindful of jumping to conclusions.  Things are often misunderstood or misinterpreted during Mercury retrograde. Information may be missing or incorrect.  Get confirmation or clarification.

Listen more, speak less.  Things we have said may come back to haunt us.

Work on on-going projects, but wait till after the retrograde to initiate anything new.

Allow extra time for travel and appointments. Expect delays.

Delay signing contracts until after the retrograde.  If this is not possible, triple check everything. Ideally, these contracts have been in the works for some time and are not being initiated now.

Expect indecisiveness and people changing their minds.

Mercury rules computers and transportation (expect repairs or problems). This is not the best time to buy electronics or vehicles. Make sure important files and data are backed up and secure.

Reflection

Some questions for reflection by astrologer Steven Forrest:

Where might we surrender too much?

Where & how does Spirit speak to us?

How can we best develop our psychic abilities?

Where must we learn to de-emphasize logic & function intuitively?

Where are we most vulnerable to mistaking wishes & fears for reality?

In what areas of life will the retrograde’s energies show up?

In whatever houses you have Gemini, Virgo, Pisces, or Sag on the cusp. Planets in these signs/ houses; aspects between planets; along with other natal factors will determine how these energies will manifest.
